Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was born on 26 December 1950 in a small city, called Sanghar, in Sindh. He received his education from the University of Sindh and obtained his degree in the year 1970. He belongs to the Minhas Rajput tribe that is situated in a modern town near Rawalpindi. His family has known to be in and out of politics as his uncle, Ayub Khan was a minister in the 1960s.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf can speak numerous languages like Urdu, Sindhi and Punjabi.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is married to Nusrat Pervaiz Ashraf and has two daughters and two sons.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is often remembered as significant member of the Pakistan People’s Party and a strong chief in the Rawalpindi district. He has taken part in the general election numerous times and has even won them. An example is in the general elections of 2008 where he was selected to be the Federal Minister for Water and Power Supply. Though his tenure as a minister was highly controversial due to alleged Rental Power Project Corruption for which cases are pending for decision in supreme court.

As a senior member of the PPP he was chosen to be the Prime Minister after Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani was prohibited to be the Prime Minister due to court charges. Being the new Prime Minister he expressed his concerns over the inflation, rising power situation and the economy.

He remained prime minister of Pakistan for 7 months until the care-taker government was placed in March 2013.
