Zaheer-ud-din Babar Awan was born in a remote village near Islamabad.
He began his political career when he joined the Pakistan Muslim League in early eighties when Mr Mohammad Khan Junejowas the Prime Minister of Pakistan. In 1996 he joined the Pakistan People’s Party and contested general elections of 1997 and 2002 from the PPP. He did not win a seat in either election.
Benazir Bhutto assigned him as the Finance Secretary of the PPP in 2004. In 2006 he fought in the Senate elections and won. He was also given the post of Minister of Parliamentary affairs in late 2008 and then Federal Law Minister in late 2009. In addition he was also the Minister of Information and Technology.
The Pakistan People’s Parties Central Executive Committee removed him from all parts of the party on 2nd May 2012.
