    Big libraries were established by the rulers and maintained the leading nobles. Humanyun had a big library and was deeply interested in astrology. According to the Jesuit Father Manrique, the Library at Agra in 1641 contained 24,000 volumes valued at six and a half million rupees, or nearly three-quarters of a million sterling. Considerable works from Sanskrit, Greek and Latin were translated into Persian being the language of culture and refinement in those days.
