Khawaja Asif was born in the city of Sialkot on 9 August 1949. His father, Khawaja Muhammad Safdar was also a politician. Other than politics he was also a banker and recently a profitable businessman.
He received his education form the Punjab University in the early 1970s and later on from LSE in 1975. He is married to Musarrat Asif and has four children comprising for three daughters and a son. All of his children are extremely educated and live abroad.
Prior entering politics he stayed in UAE for some time but again returned to Pakistan to look after his father before his death.
He has successfully won each and every election from 1991 till date. He is a senior member of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz Group and has been given the post of a MNA several times in the past.
Just over a year ago he was accused to have a dual nationality. Thus according to the Pakistani constitution could not be allowed to contest in the elections. However there was no evidence so he remained eligible to run in general elections.
Khawaja Asif is currently a Federal Minister for Water & Power in the 2013 Federal Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif.
